What is the BC Register of Historic Places?

The BCRHP is the official provincial list of historic places that have been recognized for their heritage value by the provincial or local governments. It is also BC’s part of the Canadian Register of Historic Places (CRHP), an online database of historic places with local, provincial, territorial and national significance.

When a historic place is recognized or protected using provisions of the Local Government Act  (Part 27), local government staff notify the Heritage Branch so that the BC Registrar can add it to the BCRHP.  Once the site record meets national data standards, the historic place can be listed on the CRHP.

What is the BCRHP Data Entry Template?

The data entry template is a tool provided to help local governments document their historic places and submit complete records that meet the data standards of the BC and Canadian Registers.

• The current template (BCRHP Version 3, MS Access 2003, 2010/12/07)
• Two short guideline documents (Template Guidelines and Submitting Records) to help you use the template and submit your records to Heritage Branch
• The Data Dictionary describing all the fields in the template and the information required for each
